As BarlowGirl looks back on their first 10 years of music, Kevin Davis looks at the story behind one of their hits.

The album not only tells the story of the band musically, including their No. 1 radio hits “Never Alone”, “I Need You To Love Me” and “Let Go,” but it also tells their story, visually. Included in the packaging is a 16-page booklet that dips into the Barlow Family archives and reveals the history of the band through never-before-seen images.
Unlike your typical "best of" compilation, Our Journey... So Far candidly tells the story of these three rockin’ sisters (Alyssa, Lauren and Rebecca) in chronological order. It's truly a product that will engage all fans no matter when they first connected with BarlowGirl. I can only give this album five stars and a perfect score for message and music as these are all truly incredible songs with inspiring messages and gorgeous vocals. My only other advice is that you need to also get the rest of the songs from Love & War if you haven’t already.
For BarlowGirl, the focus is always on sharing what God has placed on their hearts. They have continued to do just that with Love & War.
“I think there are two continuous messages that we are trying to get across on this album," Becca Barlow says. "One is that time is short and we don’t have time to not follow the Lord. We don’t have time to do the things we desire to do. It’s time to be bold and follow the calling God has in your life. The second message is that it’s all about being in love with the Lord and about that relationship with Him. If we don’t have that relationship with Him, we can’t have the boldness.”
Our Journey... So Far includes the stand-out song “Our Worlds Collide.” I got the chance to interview Alyssa Barlow about the song.
Please share the personal message behind writing the song “Our Worlds Collide.”
We love the Beatles, and they are a major musical influence for us. One day Becca was playing the melody and chord progression on the piano and Lauren and I said, “Yes, let’s go with that feeling.” Every time we come up with a new melody, we discuss what we think the song feels like and what emotion it brings out of us. Then, we spend some time in prayer.
I remember telling Lauren that I’d like to open the door a bit to what our personal prayer time feels like for us girls. We wanted this song to reflect a prayer time message about the relationship we have with God. We’ve all taken vows of purity and at times that can be difficult. It hasn’t been easy as instead of running to boyfriends, we run to God. What has come out of that vow has been the relationships we each have with God. We all like to take time to be alone with God and admire His creation and in my quiet time with God, I wrote this song.
Please tell me about the Bible verses you used in writing the song.
Psalm 19:1-3: "The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard."
What's the take-away message for listeners?
We would not have the relationships with have with God if we didn’t press into Him as much as we do when we feel loneliness. We decided to each reflect on what our personal prayer time with God looks like. We started writing down what it feels like for each of us individually.
Being out in nature really speaks to each of us. We each go our separate ways and spend time on the beach or on the porch and just listening to God. When you are surrounded by nature or looking at the stars, there's just something that draws you closer to Him. We also wanted the song to have a poetic feel. We didn’t want to be trite.

As we talked about before regarding our song “Time For You To Go,” we feel like we draw closer to God by fasting from technology. Sometimes we’ll take 3 or 4 days or even a week and not watch TV, listen to music, anything. We are challenging people to just take a break from the media and technology and just listen to God. Nothing is greater than His voice. When we turn off our phones and just spend time with Him, the best way we could describe the experience was ‘our worlds collide.’ We were thinking of Jesus telling us how to pray in Matthew 6:9-10: This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Here’s Matthew Henry’s commentary on Psalm 19:1-3: “The heavens so declare the glory of God, and proclaim his wisdom, power, and goodness, that all ungodly men are left without excuse. They speak themselves to be works of God's hands; for they must have a Creator who is eternal, infinitely wise, powerful, and good.
"The counter-changing of day and night is a great proof of the power of God, and calls us to observe, that, as in the kingdom of nature, so in that of providence, he forms the light, and creates the darkness, and sets the one against the other. The sun in the firmament is an emblem of the Sun of righteousness, the Bridegroom of the church, and the Light of the world, diffusing Divine light and salvation by his gospel to the nations of the earth.
"He delights to bless his church, which he has espoused to himself; and his course will be unwearied as that of the sun, till the whole earth is filled with his light and salvation. Let us pray for the time when he shall enlighten, cheer, and make fruitful every nation on earth, with the blessed salvation. They have no speech or language, so some read it, and yet their voice is heard. All people may hear these preachers speak in their own tongue the wonderful works of God. Let us give God the glory of all the comfort and benefit we have by the lights of heaven, still looking above and beyond them to the Sun of righteousness.”
“Our Worlds Collide” is a shimmering ballad that perfectly showcases the sisters’ gorgeous vocal blend as well as their emotionally weighty wordplay. Like the other “love” songs on Love & War, this song is also about love and the girls share how God has filled their hearts with love.
The personal nature of the songs really draws me in as I have three daughters, and want nothing more than for them to know the Love of God. BarlowGirl is a band I’ve always enjoyed and I love how these three sisters never fail to really fire me up to stand up for God and for my beliefs.
If you are looking for Love & War’s “Never Alone”, “I Need You To Love Me” or “Here’s My Life,” this is yet another stand-out song along with “Beautiful Ending” and “Sing Me A Love Song”--both of which I’ve also written “Behind the Song” devotionals about.
The next time you look at the stars and see how “the heavens declare the glory of God” remember that God loves you and is singing over you. As BarlowGirl sings in this song, “now I know why I’m alive,” may we all have that wonderful reminder that we matter to God and were created for His pleasure. Amen.
